Montreal… meet Shifu, the newest restaurant to join the city’s roster of delish spots to grab some mouthwatering traditional Chinese food. Modern, fun and caring vibes over each meal served!
Shifu is based on M.r Ping’s 30-year career as a restaurateur. He started his journey as a dishwasher to owning his restaurant, Chez Ping, in Montreal, Canada. As a head chef, he has always prioritized the taste and quality of his dishes.
The Chez Ping restaurant faced operational, marketing and administrative issues due to the language barrier and lack of resources. The Covid lockdown forced the business to find external help to guarantee the company’s longevity. This is where his sons Henry and Kelvin came in to support the business and revamp the restaurant.
This place is a true gem! The design is gorgeous and the food is fabulous! The menu combines the best in Montreal's old Jewish-style Cantonese Chinese cuisine with a contemporary twist, the freshest ingredients and portions fit for a king. All cooked to perfection! Then there’s the design! Wow! The graphics and packaging offer extraordinary form and function. Not only are they colourful, funky and cool, they also work super well by keeping the food warm and fresh all the way to their destination. I went for the first time yesterday and had the Shifu Fried Rice Combo and Wonton Soup. Both were super delicious! And I took home what I couldn’t finish in their beautiful, environmentally-friendly packaging. Can’t wait to return to try more of their food!
Kudos to owner and brainchild Andy Choy for treating Montrealers to his vision, hard work and culinary expertise. Got to meet the young man when I was there and he is the gem behind the gem, and hopefully the future of successful Montreal restaurateurs. All Montrealers will ultimately benefit if we support him. Go Andy!
Great & yummy food! Both the salt & pepper trio and the chow fun trio were very tasty. Loved that the trios came with vegetarian spring rolls. The portions were very generous. Bonus to the packaging, very fun colour and eye-catching. Staffs were very welcoming! Would definitely come back!
Got the beef coco curry and it was so goood!! It was sweet and fragrant and decently big portion. One trio can easily be 2 meals. Also picked up their tom yum peanuts and it is so addicting. Apparently the salt and pepper shrimp is also really good so will definitely come back to try that one next timee
Foods are really tasty, big serving! Beautiful packaging and the service was fast! Staffs were really nice and welcoming. Will come back anytime! Also met the master mind shifu behind the cuisine he was kind and friendly!
We ordered the salt&pepper chicken and tofu, the portion is very generous. I like the fact that the chicken is well seasoned with a kick of spiciness. The curry fishball also has a good flavour and reminds me of Hong-Kong street food! Will definitely come again, especially after a study night at the library.
